Fruit fly cultures are commonly available in two different species throughout the hobby, Drosophila hydei and Drosophila melanogaster – both of which are genetically altered to be flightless for convenient feeding. They are healthy feeder insects consisting of a high protein and moisture content, making them an excellent feeder for various small pets, such as reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and birds! Please note that Drosophila hydei flies (1/8″) are larger in comparison to Drosophila melanogaster flies (1/16″) and they may each be more appropriate for certain pets; we generally carry both species and preferences can be specified at checkout.
Our Canadian-raised fruit fly cultures are gut loaded with fresh and healthy nourishments and kept in ideal living conditions to ensure that they arrive to your animal in good health! To maintain your fruit flies and maximize their longevity and reproductivity, it is best to keep them at room temperature in the container that they came in. By doing so, the fruit flies will not only reproduce and survive for much longer, but will also provide the best-possible nutritious values for your pets.
