Why Mist a Terrarium?
Proper misting can help maintain the humidity required by many tropical reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
Some species, including many geckos and chameleons, readily drink droplets from leaves and enclosure surfaces. Misting can also help recreate periods of increased moisture similar to conditions animals may experience in their natural habitats.
Great for Bioactive Enclosures
Maintaining appropriate moisture is also important for many bioactive setups. Regular misting can help support:
- Live terrarium plants
- Isopods and other clean-up crew organisms
- Moisture-dependent substrate layers
- Overall enclosure humidity
Important
Humidity requirements vary considerably between species. Use a reliable hygrometer to monitor enclosure conditions and avoid excessive moisture or constantly saturated substrate unless specifically required by the animals and plants being kept.
Always provide adequate ventilation and follow the humidity requirements of your particular species.
