Fluval Stratum is a premium mineral-rich volcanic soil substrate collected from the foothills of Japan’s famous Mount Aso volcano. Specially designed for freshwater planted aquariums and shrimp tanks, it provides an ideal environment for strong plant growth and healthy aquatic life.
Its lightweight, porous and non-compacting structure allows plant roots to easily penetrate and spread throughout the substrate, providing access to important nutrients that help aquatic plants flourish.
The highly porous surface also provides an excellent environment for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonize, supporting biological filtration and helping maintain excellent water quality.
Fluval Stratum naturally helps support a neutral to mildly acidic pH, making it ideal for many aquatic plants, tropical fish and freshwater shrimp.
For shrimp aquariums, the substrate provides tiny spaces where newly hatched shrimp can seek refuge from larger tank inhabitants until they are big enough to emerge.
Its attractive natural appearance enhances planted aquariums without discolouring the water and can also help control organic discolouration commonly associated with natural driftwood.
