Description
Fluval Stratum is a mineral-rich volcanic soil substrate collected from the foothills of Japan’s famous Mount Aso volcano. Specially formulated for freshwater planted aquariums and shrimp tanks, its porous structure provides an ideal environment for healthy plant growth and beneficial bacteria.
Plant roots can easily penetrate and spread throughout the lightweight, non-compacting substrate, allowing them access to readily available nutrients that encourage strong, healthy growth.
The highly porous structure also provides an excellent surface for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonize, helping support biological filtration and optimal water quality.
Fluval Stratum naturally helps maintain a neutral to mildly acidic pH, making it well suited to many aquatic plants, tropical fish and freshwater shrimp.
For shrimp aquariums, the substrate's structure provides newly hatched shrimp with small refuge areas where they can shelter until they are large enough to emerge.
Its attractive natural appearance complements planted aquariums and will not discolour aquarium water. It can also help control organic discolouration commonly associated with natural driftwood.
