Leopard Gecko facts:
Scientific name: Eublepharis macularius
Family: Leopard Gecko’s belong to the subfamily Eublepharidae or eyelid geckos
Distribution: Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and a part of India
Average hatchling size: 3-4 in (7-10cm)
Average adult size: 7-10 in (18-25cm)
Average life span: 10-25 years (some individuals even live longer)
Housing: Exo Terra’s Natural Terrarium SMALL/LOW is ideal for Leopard geckos. Leopard geckos can be housed together in pairs or small groups of 1 male with 2-3 females, but males should never be housed together.
Substrate: the Sand Mat simulates the compacted substrate in the leopard gecko’s natural environment. The Sand Mat should be replaced every 3 months, or as needed. Care tip: the more often waste is spotted and removed, the longer the Sand Mat will last.
Decoration: the Reptile Cave Medium is a nice decorative hideout for your leopard gecko to hide and sleep in during daylight hours
Lighting: Leopard geckos are mainly crepuscular, meaning they’re most active during dusk and dawn. The energy efficient Exo Terra Day & Night LED Fixture (2W only) provides optimal light for viewing pleasure as well as to simulate a 12-hour day-night cycle
Heating: it’s best to create a daytime temperature gradient by heating approximately ⅓ of the floor space (88-94°F/31-34°C) by placing the Exo Terra Heat Mat Small on one side of the terrarium floor, so ⅔ will remain cool (80-82°F/26-28°C) – keep the nighttime temperature at an average of 68-72°F (20-22°C). Additional heating (like the Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot, Night Heat Lamp or Ceramic Heater) may be necessary if temperatures fall below the recommended range.
Food: insectivorous – feed juveniles daily and adults every other day – always dust your feeder insects with a 1:1 mix of Exo Terra Multivitamin and Calcium +D3 powder supplement
Watering: always provide your Leopard geckos with fresh, clean drinking water in the Exo Terra medium Water Dish. Use Exo Terra Aquatize Terrarium Water Conditioner to remove Chlorine & Chloramine as well as to neutralize heavy metals from the tap water.
