The Exo Terra BioDrain Terrarium Draining Substrate is a natural, non-organic drainage substrate designed to create an effective water drainage layer in tropical terrariums, bio-active enclosures and paludariums.

Unlike organic substrates, BioDrain will not rot or decompose. When placed beneath the decorative substrate layer, it creates a drainage area where excess water can collect, helping prevent the upper substrate from becoming excessively saturated.

For best results, BioDrain can be used with Exo Terra BioDrain Terrarium Draining Mesh, which separates the drainage substrate from the decorative top layer. This helps prevent the substrates from mixing while keeping the drainage area functioning properly.

BioDrain can also provide an area for beneficial biological activity, helping support biological filtration of water within suitable terrarium and paludarium setups. Collected water can then be incorporated into features such as waterfalls, rain systems and dripping plants.

Recommended Use

Place BioDrain at the bottom of the terrarium to create the drainage layer. Cover with BioDrain Terrarium Draining Mesh before adding your decorative or planting substrate to help keep the layers separated.
